Bishop TD Jakes, the senior pastor of The Potter’s House in Dallas, had a health scare during a church service on Sunday, November 24.
While preaching, the 67-year-old pastor appeared to pause and shake briefly. Members of the congregation quickly stepped in to help.
Later that day, Jakes’ family released a statement saying he is stable and receiving medical care. “Bishop Jakes experienced a slight health incident during today’s service. After his powerful, hour-long message, he received immediate medical attention,” the statement read. It added that he’s now under the care of doctors and thanked the community for their prayers and support.
The church has not shared details about what caused the incident or if Jakes was hospitalized.
Update about his health status
His daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and her husband, Toure Roberts, provided an update on Instagram. “Today could have been a tragic day, but it wasn’t. By God’s mercy and grace, Bishop is recovering well and under medical care,” said Roberts. “We’re trying to get him to rest, but he’s as strong as ever. We appreciate your prayers.”
Support has poured in from followers on social media and local church leaders, including Pastor Frederick Haynes of Friendship-West Baptist Church.
The Potter’s House, which has over 30,000 members, is one of the largest and most influential churches in the U.S. Fans and well-wishers continue to hope for Bishop Jakes’ quick recovery.
